Covid notice:

CMBA, and by way of extension, Thunder, adjusts and abides by any requests/requirements from our facility rentals, municipalities, and/or AHS on public requirements.

First, to clarify for all, facility protocols are NOT created, guided, or in any way under our organizations control. We are simply sharing the information with our members of what we are being told to keep everyone as informed and aware as possible.

Second, as any/all requirements are byway of our facility use, we are ONLY to proceed to the requirements of AHS and individual facility protocols. This means that though we appreciate that all want to be as prepared and organized as possible, no one on a team is to request and/or collect individual documentation. Each person making use of the facility is responsible for their own protocol alignment to the venue specific requirements. Again, we are here to offer as much information as possible (ideally in advance of your arrival at a venue) to allow you to be prepared for venue specific requirements.

That said, there are AHS released updates which thankfully still allow our season to move ahead. With that, a reminder that as posted to our site, previously sent in emails, reiterated to the end of being annoying.... the requests/requirements are not up for debate.

It is unfortunate, but unless notified directly by your Board, the following remain in place (at a minimum) to protect our season and keep our teams playing:

  • Entering and exiting
    • masks on!
      • adhere at minimum to AHS, though these maybe extended by individual facility protocols
    • entering and exiting are ON TIME - not early, not late
      • arrive dressed, we will have limited access and only our allotted time
    • follow any facility directions (ie. enter here, exit there)
  • limited (or no) spectators - reference to venue information for specifics
    • player transportation (parents, siblings, friends, etc) must be waiting outside the facility (parking lots) after practice/games
      • arrive 10 minutes before the end of practice/games for pick up
      • players will be outside once practice/games are done, you are not to show up late
  • be respectful, kind, polite, be human

You choose to be here, to offer an opportunity to your players, and we are collectively doing the best we can to keep this season moving through an ever changing landscape.... let's protect all that we can in a way that is courteous to one another.

Sorry, we recognize it is trial by fire at the moment for coaches, but the CMBA clinics have been and remain available. Evaluations - done.

Thank you to all players, their support, and our volunteers that made this a successful weekend!

Teams are out, you will have a great season. We are fortunate to be able to have this opportunity to play. Show up, keep this in mind, and be excited to run!
Evaluation Overview for Parents/Guardians & Players:
The overall purpose of evaluations is to place each player on a team where they have the best opportunity to have fun and develop as a basketball player. All registered players will be put on a team. The evaluation process will include a variety of skills/drills and team play. The evaluators will be a mix of coaches and qualified evaluators from the communities within NCBC Thunder Basketball. An evaluation panel will make all final decisions regarding team assignments.

CMBA coaching clinics - GET REGISTERED! ...check dates/times and get after it.
Coaches are needed, sign up! We need volunteer coaches, and these will not be determined until later. So worse case scenario in doing a clinic, you do not coach, but have gained a little more basketball knowledge!
All coaches come out with only the best of intentions and parallel to that thought, CMBA wants to make sure you have the foundational tools to build off of... plus keep in mind this sport evolves! With that thought in mind it is also a moment to reiterate that CMBA ball is based on the Canadian style of play.... what does that mean?!? Perfect, you register, take the FREE course and learn it, to implement it! Click here to register.
CMBA has been at the leading edge of offering the most up-to-date and well researched youth sports development models to their coaches. The concepts and ideas presented in the CMBA Coach Development clinics has resulted in exciting success - the feedback provided by coaches attest to this fact. Years of research & development in youth sports has resulted in proven teaching techniques, proven decision-making processes and proven Style of Play concepts that coaches are encouraged to utilize. CMBA has embraced these best-in-class concepts and the results speak for themselves.
Canada Basketball's Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) Model, Rick Torbett's Read & React Offense and Point Guard College's concepts to develop players are all utilized in CMBA's Fall CD Program.
Tykes - Friday night lights!
We do have our camp style coaches set and facilities FINALLY, FINALLY in place. Tykes will run Friday nights ...and at gyms in the North with adjustable hoops! Trust us, this is a big thing as a number of these younger programs have cancelled and/or are having to play on full height hoops.
We will look to reaffirm registration through fees paid and ONLY after this is complete then assign you to your team complete with time/location schedule through the free TeamSnap app sometime through the week of September 20th to 23rd (adjustment on timing to completing this weekend). If AFTER the 23rd 27th you do not have an invite, please write into registrar@thunderbasketball.ca
**find the TeamSnap app and download it now or when you get your invite!**
Note that Tykes has had to push our official kick off to Friday October 1st. Again specific information on location/time will be shared to you through TeamSnap.
Uniform sizing chart - check your measurements
You are responsible for the uniform size, so with it we would suggest that you actually measure and do your best to have a little room to grow... but try to avoid swimming in it!
NO we do NOT mix and match sizes... sorry, it is a uniform set, so do your best to size yourself accordingly.
Thunder - team.community.commitment
Lets be ready for the season, excited for the opportunity to play ball, and ensure we are respectful to all involved. From your Thunder board, to your coaches, to CMBA, to our facilities, to your family, to our competitors.... we show up, leave it all on the floor, and ALWAYS do it with respect!
Being part of Thunder is being part of our team, you are our community and we are committed to offering each other the best basketball experience possible. It is a sport, we are competitive, and in it we always show good sportsmanship!
To you all, .... thank you on behalf of your Thunder board for your continued understanding and patience, we are excited to be back in the gym. Arrive hungry so we can get after it... heart & hustle!
