Behaviour

Expected Behavior

NCBC Thunder and the CMBA take a hard stand against unruly behavior by the parents and spectators at the games, practices, any event.  This is a youth organization that promotes healthy competition in the girls and boys divisions. There will continue to be instances where game reports are filled out due to inappropriate behavior (some for positive behavior) demonstrated by spectators, coaches, players, refs, etc. Please send these in as we need the communication, accounts, and information in order to continue to improve the game for all.

Acceptable behavior at the events/games include:

  • Cheering for your team in a respectful manner when they make a good play
  • Encouraging your players
  • Wearing team colours

Unacceptable behavior at the events/games include:

  • Yelling at officials
  • Prompting the officials for certain calls
  • Yelling at the players on the floor
  • Engaging in argumentative communication with other parents from the other team and your own team
  • Overly loud and excessive cheering where the people around you find it obnoxious
  • Yelling at either coach
  • Lack of respect towards players, coaches, etc

Consequences for unacceptable behavior from the spectators:

NCBC Thunder reserves the right to suspend or ban spectators from the games, practices, events, etc for unacceptable behavior.   If your actions are deemed serious enough, your child will no longer be able to participate in the NCBC Thunder basketball program.

These are children that we are dealing with and we are the adults.  We must remember to set the example at all times.

Game Reports:

If there are any incidents before, during, or after the game, you can fill out a game report on the www.cmba.ab.ca website.  If you have had officials that have been lacking in knowledge of the game or afraid to blow the whistle, then you can also fill out an 'officials report' on the CMBA website.  Likewise, if you've had officials that did a good job, you can also fill out an 'officials report'. The CMBA and officiating committee will look at all of these reports.

Facilities Use:

We do NOT play ball if we do NOT have access to our gyms, it is honestly that simple!

We must all RESPECTFULLY POLICE conduct in and around our gyms.

Do not go all Terminator on players, parents, siblings, etc... but do REMIND THEM of the basic rules outlined below. There are no excuses around not knowing these rules as CMBA shared this information with all Zones, who in turn have distributed the same message to our community of players. Also, if something disrespectful is happening CMBA has asked that you simply notify them through a game report and/or let the officials know as they will contact CMBA Officials Assignor along with CMBA Operations Manager and General Manager. Coaches, players, parents, guardians, fans.... we need to be in this together!

Help your players (and their siblings) out; have them bring some cards, drawing/colouring papers, or any small, quiet activity... or honestly hang out and be good fans by watching other games (same notes go for practices and all events).

  • please help ensure that we have perfect gym etiquette. This means that we are respectful inside and outside of the facilities;
    • access is ONLY given as per facilities rules and regulations (typically 15 minutes prior to start time)
    • no balls are bounced outside of the gym
    • no one is touring the school (aka siblings playing in the halls)
    • all are seated in the gym (and NOT along the baselines)
    • ALSO....do NOT have your players siblings, cousins, friends, etc hitting the game floor at any point in the game, practice, etc!
      • Timeouts and halftime are still game time... if you want to perform a halftime show, let us know and we can talk about that. Otherwise, please be a good fan by remaining off the floor and showing your respect for the teams.
    • NO outside shoes - these must be removed at the entrance, this includes all siblings, parents, cousins, grandparents, etc

Calgary Recreation - all participants reminders:
    • Main school doors are opened for the rental groups 15 minutes prior to the start of the booking, and locked 15 minutes after start time.
      • Supervisors for the group should be at the main doors at start time for their rental for parents dropping off.
      • Parents cannot drop off early and/or cannot drop off without a supervisor for their rental group on site.
      • Do NOT request for the doors to be left open until the NEXT booking comes in!
        • For those arriving to pick up players and if/when we have a second group following your team is to have a volunteer assigned to the door (15 minutes before the end of your gym time - we are responsible for our own access between practices/events)
    • At no time should early access be requested; the school doorbell is not an opportunity to request early admittance.

Abusive behavior by anyone in the group, including parents/guardians of members will not be tolerated.
